WASHINGTON – United States (US) top general CQ Brown said Washington was not willing to give Israel all the weapons it wanted. Part of the reason is that America doesn't want to give it at this point.
General Brown, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters that eliminating Hamas would be a challenge for the Zionist military.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was in Washington earlier this week, where he reportedly presented a wish list of weapons his country wants from the US as the Israeli military continues its months-long war in the Palestinian Gaza Strip to try to eliminate Hamas.
“On weapons, one of the reasons why Israel doesn't get everything they need is because we don't have the capacity to provide them either,” General Brown said.
“Another reason is that the US is not willing to provide some other capabilities, not at this time,” he said on Thursday, as reported by Reuters, Friday (29/3/2024).
Responding to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 2023, the Zionist military launched brutal bombings in Gaza. Gaza's Hamas-run Health Ministry says more than 31,000 Palestinians have been killed. It was not clear how many of them were Hamas militants or civilians.
US and Israeli relations have hit rocky times in recent weeks after Washington called on Israel to be more careful when it comes to civilian casualties.
Joe Biden's administration has also expressed its objection to Israel's invasion of Rafah, a small city bordering Egypt, where more than 2 million Palestinians have sought refuge.
US officials say there are better alternatives Israel could take, which would achieve the same goals, namely weakening Hamas or pursuing its leadership.
Brown said Israel has provided extensive details about Israel's plans to protect Palestinian civilians. “We probably need more details,” he said.
