Eid is usually synonymous with hampers and they are usually sold a lot during the month of Ramadan.
Hampers are baskets containing food, drinks or other types of goods that are often bought and given to someone as a gift ahead of Eid.
Usually, Ramadan hampers contain basic necessities, pastries, dates, and religious items. The contents of these hampers are often products that we are familiar with.
However, most of these famous products are products that support Israel.
It is known that Israel continues to launch attacks on Palestine, which culminates in a boycott of products from that country.
MUI appeal
There is an appeal from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for the public to be critical in choosing products that will be used as Ramadan hampers.
MUI Chair for Fatwa, Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, warned against purchasing products for hampers that are halal and do not have direct collaboration with Israel.
The appeal also refers to the fatwa issued by the MUI Fatwa Commission, namely Fatwa Number 83 of 2023 concerning the Law on Support for the Palestinian Struggle.
The fatwa was confirmed on November 8, 2023.
Apart from that, Kiai Ni'am stated that the act of providing support for Israeli aggression against Palestinians or parties who support Israel, whether directly or indirectly, is haram.
Meanwhile, supporting the struggle for Palestinian independence against Israeli aggression is legally obligatory.
