When spending holidays abroad, bringing souvenirs to those closest to you is a habit. Unfortunately, Customs and Excise recently implemented new regulations containing restrictions on goods brought from abroad to Indonesia. This regulation came into effect starting last Sunday (10/03).
Reporting from CNBC Indonesia, this restriction on baggage for foreign passengers is a continuation of the enactment of Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023. This regulation regulates limits on the number of items from several commodities or goods that will later be allowed to enter the country.
According to Customs, this regulation applies because goods brought from abroad to Indonesia have the status of imported goods. Therefore, if the cargo carried is excessive, then of course the goods will be prohibited from entering Indonesia.
Based on the explanation from the Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Customs and Excise Office, Gatot Sugeng Wibowo, there are at least 8 types of goods that are restricted from being brought into Indonesia from abroad. What are these items? Here is the explanation:
1. Footwear

The first item to be restricted is footwear. Each passenger is limited to bringing a maximum of 2 pieces of footwear. The footwear in question can be sandals or shoes. If you bring more than 2 pairs of footwear, there is a big possibility that one of them will be confiscated.
On the other hand, you have to consider the price too, you know, Beauties. The reason is, Customs and Excise also imposes tax fees on the accumulated price of shoes. If the price of the shoes exceeds 500 USD, then you have to pay the difference in value.
So, the difference in this value will be subject to import duty of 10%, VAT of 11% and import PPh of 10% for those who have a NPWP and 20% for those who do not have a NPWP.
2. That

Apart from footwear, bags are also limited. Just like riverbeds, each passenger can only carry a maximum of 2 bags. This is done as an effort to prevent the belongings from being resold.
3. Textile Goods

The next goods that are limited are various kinds of ready-made textile goods. Textile products generally have a very wide range, starting from clothes, trousers, skirts, jackets and the like.
Especially for textile goods, passengers are limited to only 5 pcs. For those of you who like to shop while on holiday abroad, this new regulation is really a tough challenge, OK?
4. Electronics

Various electronic goods are also restricted from being brought from abroad to Indonesia. At least 1 passenger is limited to only carrying 5 units. Especially for electronics, Customs also uses a maximum FOB (Free on Board) value of 1,500 USD.
5. Communication Devices

The types of goods that fall into this group include: cell phones, handheld computers and tablets. Especially for this communication device, you are limited to only bringing a maximum of 2 units within a 1 year arrival period.

Pearls and the like are also subject to restrictions. However, the limitation is not on the number of items, but on the value of the items. The maximum FOB value is around 1,500 USD. If the value of the goods is above this value, additional tax will be charged.
7. Cosmetics and Household Health Supplies

Other goods that cannot be avoided when entering Indonesia are various kinds of cosmetics and household health supplies (PKRT). PKRT includes thermometers, blood pressure monitors, bandages, nebulizers and the like. Especially for cosmetics and PKRT, the number of items to carry is limited to a maximum of 20 items per person.
8. Animals and Animal Products and Foodstuffs

Furthermore, what is restricted is all types of animals and animal products. The restriction is a maximum of 5 kg per person. In addition, the value is also taken into consideration, a maximum of 1,500 USD per passenger.
Meanwhile, food ingredients are also limited. The food ingredients in question include rice, corn, sugar, garlic and horticultural products. The same as animal products, the quota per passenger is limited to a maximum of 5 kg with a maximum value of 1,500 USD.
9. Other Items

Apart from the items above, several types of goods that are also limited per person include: Toys (maximum FOB US$ 1,500), alcoholic drinks (maximum 1 liter), two and three-wheeled bicycles (maximum 2 units) and downstream plastic (maximum 1,500 USD).
After investigating, the regulations regarding restrictions on luggage have been tightened due to the rise of the entrustment service (jastip) business. On Friday (08/03), Soekarno-Hatta Customs and Excise together with the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) destroyed 2,564 pieces (total 1 ton) of processed milk buns, a viral food from Thailand. The destruction of the milk bun was carried out because it exceeded the limit and did not have a BPOM permit.
According to reports, 1 ton of milk buns is worth a total of IDR 400 million and is the result of 33 actions since February 2024. For this reason, Customs and Excise are now really tightening the regulations on foreign baggage in an effort to prevent the goods being resold. in jastip practice.
