2026 World Cup Qualification Standings: Slaughter Vietnam, Indonesian National Team One Step Away From Qualifying! Photo: PSSI Media
The Indonesian National Team standings in the 2026 World Cup Qualification round will be reviewed in this article. With Indonesia's success in beating Vietnam, the Red and White squad only needs one more win to qualify for the third round.
The Indonesian national team has just managed to beat Vietnam with a score of 3-0 in Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification at the My Dinh National Stadium, Hanoi, Tuesday (26/3/2024) evening WIB. The three winning goals were scored by Jay Idzes (9'), Ragnar Oratmangoen (23'), and Ramadhan Sananta (90+8').
This victory also makes the Indonesian National Team maintain its hopes of qualifying for the third round of 2026 World Cup Qualification because it is currently in second place in Group F with a collection of seven points. They are five points adrift of Iraq, which can be said to be guaranteed to qualify. Meanwhile Vietnam is in third place with three points.
(Standings Table)
The Indonesian national team only has two matches remaining in Group F, facing Iraq on June 6 and the Philippines on June 11. In these two matches, the Garuda Squad could be said to have benefited from playing in front of their own public.
To qualify for the third round, the team led by Shin Tae-yong only needs one condition. The Indonesian national team only needs to lock in victory between the matches against Iraq or Vietnam.
The reason is, if they successfully lock in victory between their last two matches, the Indonesian National Team will collect a total of 10 points. Vietnam certainly cannot catch up with this number, which only has a maximum of nine points.
If they successfully advance to the third round, the Indonesian National Team will also automatically qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup. Therefore, the Garuda Squad must focus on achieving victory in their last two matches.
In addition, this victory over Vietnam also broke the negative trend of the Indonesian National Team at Vietnam's headquarters. After 20 years, the Garuda Squad finally succeeded in defeating The Golden Star Warriors – the nickname of the Vietnam National Team – in Hanoi.
The last time the Indonesian national team won over Vietnam was in Hanoi in the group stage of the Tiger Cup (later the AFF Cup) in 2004. At that time, the Garuda squad led by Peter White managed to beat Vietnam with a landslide score of 3-0 through goals from Mohammad Mauly Lessy, Boaz Solossa. , and Ilham Jaya Kesuma.
