Liam Davies' story should be an inspiration to many people. The 27 year old athlete has come a long way to the peak of his career as a professional boxer.
Starting from working odd jobs as a worker in his father's bar to being a garbage man while continuing to practice sports. All this was done to change his family's life.
As many people say, hard work will not betray the results. That's what Davies now feels. All his life's journey is slowly bearing fruit.
The Telford-born boxer realized his childhood dream by claiming victory over Erik Robles Ayala to claim the vacant IBO super bantamweight title. Davies sharpened his unbeaten record in 16 fights (8 KOs).
“I know I have a lot to go through, and I expected a tougher night than I had and I'm ready for the most difficult night of my career to achieve what I want to do. And like I said, to be in this position and getting bigger fights and preparing myself, my wife and my future kids financially, so I wouldn't say it was pressure, it made me hungry and motivated everyone in the camp and felt like that night everyone “It went perfectly,” said Davies as quoted by DailyStar.
Davies told how he went through a difficult path to success in the boxing ring which saw him take several jobs, including in his father's bar before moving to a warehouse following the COVID-19 pandemic. “So before Covid, I was actually working in my dad's bar and it wasn't a problem because I didn't earn much, but if I needed time off, my dad would give it to boxing,” he recalled.
“So, then Covid came, and I started going to MOD, the depot in Donnington to supply ventilators in the warehouse on 12 hour shifts. And I was there and it opened my eyes to what I wanted to be my main focus in life.”
Davies then became a rubbish officer for several years and he explained that he was happy with the work he did. Because he can keep moving.
