JAKARTA – The Nabawi Mosque in Medina combines the wonders of modern engineering and traditional Islamic architecture with the presence of its dynamic dome. This project was built during the reign of King Fahd.
The project features 27 extraordinary domes, a combination of stunning design and technological innovation that captivates visitors. Reporting from the Saudi Gazette, Friday (22/3/2024), each dome, weighing 80 tons, is supported by a square base measuring 18 meters wide.
The domes can be opened and closed at predetermined times with the help of an extensive network of iron rails, exceeding 1,573 meters in length.
The beauty of the dome's interior is no less stunning. The interior is lined with cedar wood that is intricately laid and decorated with geometric patterns and striking turquoise highlights.

Externally, the domes display extraordinary craftsmanship, decorated with small hexagonal ceramic tiles 60 millimeters in diameter, creating an elegant geometric mosaic in turquoise and light cream.

This engineering marvel is not only about aesthetics but also plays an important role in maintaining a calm atmosphere inside the Nabawi Mosque by regulating the temperature through automatic opening and closing of the dome, ensuring comfort for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims throughout the year.
