Isaac Cruz Refuses to Think About Rematching Gervonta Davis: I'm Focusing on the Title!/Mayweather Promotions
Isaac Cruz refuses to think about the Gervonta Davis rematch and is more focused on fighting Rolando Romero for the WBA title which will be held on March 30. Isaac Cruz will face WBA super lightweight world champion Rolando Romero in a fight that also serves as the co-main event for Keith Thurman against Tim Tszyu on Amazon Prime pay-per-view.
This fight also marks something important for Cruz; a chance to win his first world title. Although Cruz has a deep connection with fans, he has never hoisted a world title on his shoulders or worn a title around his waist. “I'm just going to focus on taking care of business on March 30th,” Cruz told BoxingScene when asked about a possible rematch with Gervonta Davis.
In fact, Cruz didn't even mention Tank's name once when asked about fighting him if he wins against Romero. Cruz was considered a potential opponent for the boxing superstar last fall, but nothing came of it. “(I'm focused on) winning fights, shining in my own career and then whatever happens next, I know God will arrange what should happen in my path.”
Cruz has a record of 25-2-1, 17 KOs. Romero, the champion, has a record of 15-1, 13 KOs. Cruz is on a three-fight winning streak, two of which came by knockout and his most recent win was a split decision over Giovanni Cabrera.
Issac 'Pitbull' Cruz may be best known for his hard-fought fight against Gervonta Davis, but that doesn't mean he's backing that fight as the WBA title opener on March 30. Cruz will face WBA junior welterweight world champion Rolando Romero in a match that also serves as a co-match to Keith Thurman against Tim Tszyu on Amazon Prime pay-per-view.
