Thousands of people took part in the St Patrick's Day parade in central Tokyo on Sunday, with music, dancing and marching to celebrate Irish cultural heritage.
Participants wore green clothes and greeted spectators waving Irish flags.
Doire Myler, head of the Irish Japan Network, says Sunday's event is the culmination of a long history of good relations between Ireland and Japan. He said there are numerous groups involved in Irish community activities throughout Japan.
The Irish Japan Network has Irish and Japanese members who aim to promote Irish culture in Japan.
Tokyo's St. Patrick's Day parade was the biggest event organized on Sunday in Tokyo, but similar celebrations were held in other cities such as Nagoya and Chiba.
