JAKARTA – Music streaming service Spotify has finally added complete video clips to its platform. This video clip can be watched by Premium users in 11 countries. Namely, England, Brazil, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Netherlands, Colombia, Poland, Philippines, Sweden and Indonesia.
As compiled from Mashable, Thursday (15/2/2024), this new feature is available in beta. Users can now switch from short videos that usually appear on album covers to full videos like watching videos on the YouTube video sharing platform.
Currently the video clip catalog is still limited to a few artists, for example Beyoncé to Dua Lipa, Doja Cat to Charli XCX, RAYE to Reneé Rapp. The video clips will be available via an app on iOS and Android devices, desktops and smart TVs.
To find it on Spotify, users can press the “switch to video” button that appears when listening to the song. If the song being played already has a video clip uploaded to Spotify, the song will play immediately and users can enjoy it.
Users can also check artist pages to see if they have music videos, by scrolling down the page to find the artist's carousel. Spotify promises that there will be many more video clips that Premium users can watch.
For your information, competing music streaming services such as Tidal and Apple Music have had music videos on their streaming platforms for years. The presence of this feature on Spotify will clearly increase competitiveness with other platforms.
“At Spotify, we know that the most powerful time to reach fans is when they are interacting with their music. So Spotify is truly the best place for fans to dive deeper into an artist's music,” said Spotify executive Alex Bousquet.
“Music videos also provide added value for Premium listeners. Recently, we launched DJs and Jams in 2023, which is unique and currently only available to our Premium users. “Music videos are another way for Premium subscribers to enjoy music on Spotify,” he said.
