Marc Marquez answered Jorge Lorenzo's confusion after The Baby Alien failed to compete with the motorbike ridden by Jorge Martin in the 2024 Qatar MotoGP race. According to him, the failure to win the podium at the Lusail Circuit, Monday (11/3/2024) early morning WIB, was caused by the former Repsol jockey Honda made a mistake.
Lorenzo was initially surprised after seeing Jorge Martin's Ducati Desmosedici (Ducati Pramac) faster than Marc Marquez (Gresini Ducati). The MotoGP legend speculates that the circuit factor is the answer.
Marquez ended the race in fourth position in the 2024 Qatar MotoGP, Monday (11/3/2024) early morning WIB. The racer nicknamed The Baby Alien was one place behind Martin who got third on the podium.
Not only in the main race, Marquez also lagged behind Martin in the sprint race and qualifying. This surprised Lorenzo considering that the two racers had motorbike compositions that were not much different.
“How do you manage the weekend, the race, very intelligently knowing your limits and enjoying the bike, which hasn't happened for a long time. I was a little surprised by the difference in speed compared to (Jorge) Martin's bike on a straight line, which I didn't look on Saturday but on Sunday it was clear that you lost two or three tenths of the machine,” said Lorenzo praising Marquez as quoted by Motosan.
“I don't know what the cause is. What is missing to win? The circuit also matters, here in Qatar, where you don't just win a lot of races here,” added Lorenzo, speculating about the cause of Marquez's lag behind Martin.
Lorenzo's confusion was then answered by Marquez. The racer nicknamed The Baby Alien said that being behind Martin was his own fault, not a significant difference in the motorbike.
“He (Jorge Martin) wanted to be in that top five, both in the Sprint Race and the race. But more than a lack of engine, it was more my fault, I came out of the last corner badly, on Saturday everything went very well. We made “Small changes to the bike thinking it would help and we saw that it was not completely comfortable. This caused him to lose acceleration, which is the key to this bike,” explained Marquez.
