Special Prosecutor Robert Hur will testify Tuesday (12/3) before a US House of Representatives panel on his report on the investigation into classified state documents involving President Joe Biden, the panel said in a statement on Monday (11/3).
Hur, a former US attorney in Maryland under President Donald Trump, led a 15-month investigation into Biden's handling of classified state documents.
In February, he published a report stating that he would not file a lawsuit against Biden and that the president would be difficult to prove guilty. Hur said that, if tried, Biden would appear before a jury as a “well-meaning old man with a bad memory.”
The Biden administration said the report was politically motivated ahead of November's presidential election. Biden, who is 81 years old, is running for president again to get a second term in government. Meanwhile, Trump, who is 77 years old, is the leading Republican presidential candidate.
Republicans immediately seized on the report, saying that Hur's findings showed inequities in the United States justice system. This refers to Trump who was impeached in June 2023 for his negligence in handling secret state documents.
Prosecutors said Trump moved classified state documents around his Florida home so they would not be found. In addition, prosecutors also said Trump discussed with his lawyers the possibility of lying to government officials trying to recover the documents. (rd/hour)
