JAKARTA – An ambitious Dubai's World Islands project depicting world icons is in danger of failing. The project design, which is supposed to resemble a world map, is currently in a worrying condition. You can see large piles of sand at the landmark project worth IDR 77.5 trillion.
The location of Dubai's World Islands is about two miles from the coast of the United Arab Emirates city. The shape is a group of man-made islands arranged to resemble a world map.
There are approximately 260 islands, with each named after a city, region, country, landmark, or famous person. One of the islands is named after Michael Schumacher, while the others represent Australia, Shanghai, New York City and Mount Everest.
This project was originally known as The Island Dubai complex which consists of restaurants, swimming pools and entertainment venues in the Lebanon Island area. Express.co.uk launched from Visitdubai.com, Tuesday (11/3/2024) a video that has been watched more than 700,000 times to date.
The management of Dubai's World Islands, Top Luxury, explained plans to turn North American and European island areas into luxury resorts, building a hotel on Shanghai Island, an entertainment center in the Siberia area, and a pub in the Ireland area.
“But none of these plans are happening at the moment. Until now, the World's islands have remained mostly deserted, just empty piles of sand,” said a Top Luxury representative.
Infrastructure problems such as pipes and cables which should support the distribution of water and electricity to connect the islands are not yet operational.
Instead, diesel generators are used for electricity, water is delivered to the islands every morning, and a planned road connecting access to the mainland remains unrealized. Sand dug from the seabed to build the islands has also continued to erode.
