The activist from the United States firmly supports Palestine which is experiencing occupation by Israel.
As for Shaun King, he has now made a unanimous decision to convert to Islam.
Shaun and his family said the shahada at the start of Ramadan this year, Monday (11/3/2024) United States local time. When making the decision to accept the shahada, Shaun King was guided by US Muslim activist Omar Suleiman, as shared by fellow activist, Khaled Beydoun via his Instagram account.
Shaun King's track record in activism: Fighting racism and defending Palestine
Shaun King has always been close to minorities in the United States.
Shaun was actually born with the full name Jeffery Wayne King. Quoting the Rebel Magazine page, Shaun King experienced racist treatment from the local community.
This is what moved Shaun King to become an activist. Shaun finally attended Morehouse College but had to take a long leave of absence due to illness.
He eventually transferred to Arizona State University and received a diploma in the history study program.
Shaun King's activism activities began in the world of journalism. He is a news contributor for several news channels, Daily Kos, New York Daily News, and The Young Turks, which focuses a lot on social issues.
Shaun King is also an activist who is part of the Black Lives Matter movement, a social movement that fights for the lives of black people in the United States to be free from racist treatment.
Apart from that, Shaun King often shares news and struggles about the Palestinian people under the raging Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Shaun King controversy: accused of being unable to manage activists' money and calling the statue of Jesus racist
Unfortunately, Shaun King often finds himself in controversy.
Quoting The Washington Post, Shaun King accused a police officer in Texas of sexually assaulting a female driver. The Texas Police finally released camera footage from the police officer and it was proven that he did not commit harassment.
Shaun finally deleted and deactivated his personal social media channels after the camera recording.
The Daily Beast news channel also wrote that Shaun King often received accusations from his fellow activists for not being able to manage fundraising money properly.
Not only that, Shaun King tweeted that the statue of Jesus in the United States which depicts Jesus as having physical characteristics like a white person is a form of racism and white supremacy.
Shaun King ultimately received a lot of criticism after making this tweet, as reported by Newsweek media.
