JAKARTA – The performance of football players is not only determined by individual fitness and skill factors, but also playing techniques which can be studied scientifically.
A study conducted by Dr Jason Moran managed to find a simple trick that can change the performance of football players. He succeeded in creating a new technique that can make a player run fast.
Dr Jason said the technique would help produce future Premier League star strikers. Later, athletes can increase their running speed by 3 percent over a distance of 20 meters, as compiled from Scitechdaily, Monday (11/3/2024).
FYI, it usually takes weeks of targeted training to achieve that improvement. This short acceleration is mostly seen in goal-scoring situations and can be the difference in beating defenders and scoring goals.
Dr Jason found that simple words of motivation can improve an athlete's running performance. The research shows young professional athletes can run faster when they focus on their environment rather than their bodies.
“The words we say to athletes have a real and instant effect on their performance. It has long been known that it is better to direct an athlete's attention to the environment around him rather than focusing on his body position which seems to interfere with smooth movement,” said DrJason.
“This can be further enhanced by using certain analogies, for example, asking players to accelerate like a Ferrari can create a more evocative image in their minds than simply telling them to sprint,” he said.
The research involved 20 academy members of the North London team, all aged between 14-15 years. Before taking part in sprint training, the players were given instructions that they would receive motivational words such as pushing their legs harder or running like a jet plane.
