The first night of the holy month of Ramadan on Sunday (10/3) local time, the Al-Aqsa Mosque area was tightly guarded by Israeli Zionist troops. IDF soldiers imposed restrictions on Palestinian access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Only women and men aged 40 years and over are allowed to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform tarawih prayers. Meanwhile, Palestinian youth are prohibited from performing tarawih prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
In the video uploaded by Al-Maydeen, it appears that Palestinian youths cannot pass through the Hittah and Al-Qattanin gates to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Even though strict restrictions were imposed, it did not diminish the Palestinians' intention to pray tarawih at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
They decided to hold evening and tarawih prayers near the Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery in Al-Aqsa and around the Lion Gate of the Mosque.
Meanwhile, according to the Al-Maydeen correspondent, Israeli Zionist soldiers attacked men and women in the Old City to prevent them from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque area. The Zionist troops are said to have beaten and pushed dozens of Palestinians who wanted to perform tarawih prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Of course, this incident is not like Netanyahu's promise to allow Muslims to carry out worship at the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan. At the beginning of last week, Netanyahu, in a statement released by the Israeli Prime Minister's office, said he would give Palestinians permission to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque area only in the first week of Ramadan.
“During the first week of Ramadan, the same number of worshipers will be allowed on the Temple Mount as in previous years,” the statement said.
Meanwhile for the following week, it depends on the conditions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
“Every week there will be an assessment of the situation in terms of security and safety and decisions will be taken accordingly,” he concluded.
