In the month of Ramadan, all Muslims are required to fast for religious perfection. During this month, one must refrain from actions that could nullify the rewards of fasting.
In the book Mathalib Ulin Nuha, Musthafa bin Saad Al-Hambali states that goodness and sin can be multiplied at a noble time and place.
“Goodness and badness (sins) are multiplied in noble places such as Mecca, Medina, Baitul Maqdis, and in mosques. In noble times such as Friday, the forbidden months and Ramadan.” (Mathalib Ulin Nuha 2/385)
Therefore, we must be careful if we commit sins or immoral acts in the holy month of Ramadan, including trivial sins.
To find out what sins are, Insertlive has summarized 5 trivial sins that can erase the rewards of fasting Ramadan. Check out the following.
1. Lie
Lying is an act hated by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala. Although it does not invalidate fasting, this act is reprehensible and recommended to be avoided.
In the Book of Busyrol Karim, Sheikh Said Muhammad Ba'asyin states that lying or telling lies is an act worthy of being avoided by people who are fasting.
2. Ghibah
Backbiting is talking about other people's bad things, which is also considered a disgraceful thing. The Qur'an has warned people to be careful in what they say and not to find fault with others.
There is a surah in the Qur'an that discusses backbiting, namely QS. Al-Hujurat verse 12.
3. Sheep Fight
The next trivial sin is fighting against one another, the action of someone who deliberately creates conflict or dispute between people to gain personal gain or control the situation.
Usually, fighting against each other occurs because of gossip or slander. People who fast must avoid this disgraceful act because they will experience moral and material losses.
4. False oath
False oath is also a trivial sin, but it can take away the reward of fasting. In Fatawa Lajnah Daimah (23/133), it is stated that perjury is a major sin and kafarat is not useful because of the gravity of the sin.
People who commit this act should immediately repent and seek forgiveness from Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala.
5. Seeing with lust
Lust is a natural behavior in humans. This lust arises when seeing sensual things, either directly or indirectly.
Seeing with lust includes sin and immorality. Therefore, we must guard our eyes and perform ablution immediately, as mentioned by Shaykh Zainudin al-Malibari in the Book of Fathul Mu'in.
