Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. This year, Muslims are just counting down the days to enter this month.
Usually, Ramadan is celebrated in various ways, one of which is by reading Ramadan prayers. Ramadan prayers are offered in the hope of receiving blessings in this noble month.
In the Book of al-Dua, Imam Abdul Qasim Sulaiman bin Ahmad ath-Thabrani created a special chapter containing various Ramadan prayers, namely al-Qaul 'Inda Dukhul Ramadlan.
Also narrated by Imam Makhul al-Syami, the Messenger of Allah often recited the Ramadan prayer when the blessed month had arrived.
The Ramadan prayer that is practiced reads: Allaahumma ballighnaa ramadhaana. However, the Ramadan prayer has a complete version.
Check out the Ramadan 2024 prayer recitation along with the following Ramadan practices.
Prayer to Welcome Ramadan 2024
The prayer of Allahumma ballighnaa ramadhaana is often recited by Muslims in the months of Rajab and Shaban to welcome the month of Ramadan. The Ramadan prayer is read in full as below.
God bless us in Rajab and Sha'ban and Ramadan reached
May Allah bless us and bless us with Ramadan
“Oh God, give us the month of Rajab and Sha'ban and meet us with the month of Ramadan.” (HR Ahmad)
Suggestion of reading a prayer to welcome the month of Ramadan
The reading of the Ramadan prayer above is usually done by the previous Salaf scholars. Ramadan prayer means a request to God to be blessed and extend life until the month of Ramadan.
In addition, the Ramadan prayer is said to express gratitude and ask for safety during the holy month.
By reading the Ramadan prayer, we have asked for several things, such as safety to be able to meet the month of Ramadan, guidance, and God's pleasure for the practices during Ramadan.
The recommendation to practice the Ramadan prayer is found in the following hadith narrated by Imam Bukhari:
When Rajab came, the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, would say, “O God, bless Rajab and Sha’ban for us and let us reach Ramadan.”
“Indeed, when the Prophet SAW entered the month of Rajab, he prayed, 'Oh God, bless us in the months of Rajab and Sha'ban, and bring us to the month of Ramadan.' (HR Bukhari)
The Practice of Welcoming the Month of Ramadan
Reading the Ramadan prayer is indeed the best practice in welcoming the month of Ramadan. In addition to prayer, there are also other practices recommended for Muslims in the month of Ramadan. Here are the recommended practices to celebrate Ramadan.
1. Fasting
Fasting is the most important practice and is the fourth pillar of Islam. In the month of Ramadan, all Muslims are required by Allah SWT to fast.
In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah SWT says:
O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.
O Ayyuhallaziina, believe in the Qur'an 'alaikumus-siyaamu as well as the Qur'an 'alallaziina ming qablikum la'allakum tattaqun
“O you who believe! It is obligatory upon you to fast as it was obligatory upon those before you so that you may be righteous.” (QS Al-Baqarah: 183)
2. Tarawih Prayers
Taraweeh prayer is a sunnah prayer that is performed at night during the month of Ramadan. The sunnah practice is highly recommended and worth a great reward.
Tarawih is performed after the Isha' prayer, as mentioned in a hadith:
The Prophet SAW said, “Whoever performs the night prayer in the month of Ramadan with faith and hoping for a reward, his past sins will be forgiven.” (HR Bukhari and Muslim)
3. Evening Prayers
The next recommended practice is night prayer or qiyamullail. This prayer includes tahajud prayer, repentance prayer, desire prayer, and other sunnah prayers.
In Surah Al-Furqaan, Allah SWT says:
And the servants of the Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them they say, “Peace.” And those who spend the night prostrating and standing before their Lord.
“And, the servants of the Most Merciful God (are) those who walk on the earth with humility and when the ignorant greet them, they say words (containing) salvation. And, those who pass through night by prostrating and standing for their Lord.” (QS Al-Furqaan (25): 63-64)
4. Give charity
Almsgiving is a very meaningful form of worship in the sight of Allah SWT. Muslims are strongly encouraged to give alms, especially in the month of Ramadan, such as providing food to break the fast.
Several narrations mention that the Prophet SAW is the most generous person among all people. In a hadith, the Prophet said:
“The most important charity is charity in the month of Ramadan.” (HR Tirmidhi)
5. Reading the Qur'an
Reading the Qur'an in the month of Ramadan is a very great act of worship. In a hadith, the Prophet SAW said:
“Read the Qur'an, indeed it will come to intercede for its readers on the Day of Resurrection.” (HR Ahmad)
Ibn Abbas narrated in a hadith:
“Rasulullah SAW is the most generous person, and he increased his generosity in the month of Ramadan when he met the angel Gabriel. And, Gabriel met him every night of the month of Ramadan to mudarasah (study) the Qur'an.” (HR Bukhari)
6. Chanting
Ramadan is a month that has many glorious times. Muslims can take advantage of this by increasing their remembrance of Allah SWT, especially during istijabah times.
These times consist of the night of Lailatul Qadar, when breaking the fast, and the last third of the night.
