LIVERPOOL – The super big match match week 28 of the 2023/2024 Premier League between Liverpool vs Manchester City ended with a 1-1 draw at Anfield Stadium, Monday (11/3/2024). This draw made Arsenal feel at home at the top of the standings.
As predicted, the Liverpool versus Man City match took place with hot tension. Liverpool, who had the status of host, immediately took the initiative to control the ball.
Liverpool is 55 percent ahead compared to Man City's 45 percent. Despite being superior in possession of the ball, Liverpool failed to trouble Man City's goal guarded by Ederson.
Evidently, Liverpool was only able to take seven kicks and one went towards the opponent's goal. Just like the hosts, Man City also recorded seven kicks and four threats to Kelleher's goal.
The only difference was, of the many opportunities created, Man City was able to shake Liverpool's goal. It was John Stones, who successfully opened the scoring for The Citizens in the 23rd minute after taking advantage of a corner kick.
It was Stones' first goal with Man City since April 23 2023, when he scored in The Citizens' 4-1 win over Arsenal. Meanwhile, De Bruyne was directly involved in 13 goals in 12 appearances with Man City in 2024 (two goals, 11 assists).
That is the most recorded by any Premier League player in all competitions this year. This 1-0 lead lasted until the first interval.
After the players came out of the dressing room, Liverpool had a chance to equalize after Darwin Nunez was fouled in the penalty box.
Alexis Mac Allister, who was appointed as executioner, succeeded in carrying out his duties perfectly after his right foot shot outwitted Ederson. The position changed to 1-1.
Until the final whistle sounded, the score remained unchanged at 1-1. This additional point means that Liverpool and Man City failed to overtake Arsenal's position at the top of the Premier League standings.
Arsenal is known to still feel at home in the top position of the 2023/2024 Premier League standings with a score of 64 or the same as Liverpool (second place). Meanwhile, Man City is trailing its two compatriot teams from third place after collecting 63 points.
