BERLIN – Germany accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of trying to sow division by leaking recordings of secret German soldiers' conversations regarding the potential use of Taurus missiles for Ukraine.
The chats were leaked online at a time when Berlin is under pressure to supply Taurus missiles to Kyiv in its war against Moscow.
The 38-minute chat recording was leaked by Russian media, in which Berlin soldiers discussed the possible use of German-made Taurus missiles and their potential impact.
The discussions also covered the use of long-range missiles provided to Kyiv by France and Britain.
“It's about using this footage to destabilize and unsettle us,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
“I hope Putin will not succeed,” he said again, as quoted by AFP, Monday (4/3/2024).
“This is part of Putin's information war,” added Pistorius.
Pistorius said he was not aware of any further leaks within the German military.
He added that his party would wait for the results of the military investigation into the case to decide what consequences would be taken.
