Suara.com – Volvo has introduced a new safety feature called “Ahead Crash Warning”. The system uses real-time data from traffic management centers to alert drivers about accidents occurring several hundred meters in front of their location.
This feature is similar to the feature used by Google Maps on your phone. However, integrating Volvo directly into the car provides a smoother and potentially safer experience.
According to Carscoops, this system uses the Volvo Cars cloud, which allows Volvo vehicles to communicate with each other. The cloud is already being used to warn other drivers about dangerous road conditions and other dangers.
The Swedish brand intends to incorporate more traffic data shared with partners in the European Data for Road Safety ecosystem, including additional traffic management centers and cars from other brands.
Accident Ahead Alert will initially be available on all Volvo 40, 60 and 90 series models in Denmark built from 2016 onwards.
This safety system will soon be available on the same models in other European markets. The system can be activated by the owner using the 'connected safety' option on the infotainment display to enable data sharing.
If an accident is detected ahead, the hazard lights will flash, and the driver will be notified via the gauge cluster and head-up display.
Volvo Cars is the first car manufacturer to use the new real-time traffic event data feed, which has been received positively by Stine Bendsen, Head of the Danish Traffic Management Center at the Danish Road Directorate.
Having quick warnings to drivers of an accident ahead can help them slow down and gain distance to the car in front, reducing the risk of subsequent collisions and protecting those working to clear the road.
Volvo is advocating for more national highway authorities to share anonymous traffic crash data and is encouraging other car companies to offer similar technology.
Volvo Cars Head of Safety Center, Åsa Haglund, stated that Accident Ahead Alert, which utilizes their connected safety technology, can help Volvo drivers avoid unexpected incidents while contributing to overall road safety.
Volvo's partnership with the Danish Road Directorate and other members of the Data for Road Safety ecosystem has enabled the introduction of this new feature, further cementing their position as a leader in safety innovation.
