JAKARTA – The Indonesian government strongly condemns Israel's brutal actions which killed hundreds of Palestinians who were seeking humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
“Indonesia strongly condemns Israel's shooting of Palestinian civilians in Gaza which killed at least 100 people who were seeking humanitarian assistance,” said a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on the X account.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges the UN Security Council to immediately act to deal with the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
“Is this humanitarian tragedy still not enough for the UN Security Council to agree on a resolution regarding a ceasefire?” explained the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On Thursday, more than 100 people were killed when Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd of Palestinians seeking help from a convoy of trucks in Gaza City.
Israel has placed Gaza in a confined position, so that little or no aid or goods can enter the region. UN experts and NGOs warn of impending famine.
The Israeli military accused starving Palestinians of causing mass destruction. However, according to witnesses, video recordings and medical officers, at that time there was heavy Israeli gunfire aimed at the crowd seeking help.
At a Congressional hearing on Thursday in Washington, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said more than 25,000 Palestinians killed by Israel in the war in Gaza were women and children.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health put the total death toll at more than 30,000 people, and as many as 7,000 missing people were thought to have died under the rubble.
Although detailed details have not been provided, the Ministry of Health indicated that around 70% of the fatalities were women and children.
About 1,200 Israelis were killed in Hamas attacks on Israeli communities near Gaza on October 7. Israeli media then revealed that many Israeli citizens had been killed by Zionist soldiers themselves.
