GAZA – At least 112 Palestinians were killed and more than 750 people were injured after Israeli troops opened fire on hundreds of people waiting for food aid southwest of Gaza City. The incident became known as the “flour massacre” because many Gazans were killed while carrying the food.

The incident occurred at around 04:30 local time on Thursday (29/2/2024), when people gathered on Harun al-Rashid Street in Gaza, where aid trucks carrying flour were believed to be on their way.
Palestinian authorities said the incident occurred on al-Rashid Street at the Nabulsi Roundabout on the southwest side of Gaza City.
This happened in the northern part of Gaza, where food deliveries were very scarce. The first shipment in more than a month arrived this week.
This comes one day after Carl Skau, deputy executive director of the World Food Program (WFP), told the UN Security Council that more than 500,000, or one in four people, were at risk of starvation, with one in every six children underage. two years of age is considered acutely malnourished.

The convoy of aid trucks passed the checkpoint, heading north, as people began to gather in large groups. According to the Israeli military, a convoy of 31 trucks entered Gaza but nearly 20 trucks entered the north on Monday and Tuesday.
“As people gathered in large groups waiting for the help they desperately needed, they were shot at with all kinds of military equipment,” Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Rafah. According to an Associated Press report, people were pulling boxes of flour and canned goods from trucks.
After the first shots stopped, the people returned to the trucks, but the soldiers opened fire again.
“After opening fire, the Israeli tanks advanced and hit many dead and wounded,” said Al Jazeera's Ismail al-Ghoul, reporting from the scene.
