The increasing and scarce price of rice has become a new problem for society. Currently, purchases of 5 kg premium rice packages at retail are limited to two packs per consumer.
These regulations were decided by the National Food Agency (Bapanas). Arief Prasetyo as Head of Bapanas said that this restriction was made because the number of 2 packs was considered sufficient for one household.
By purchasing 2 packs, this means the buyer gets a total of 10 kg of rice. Arief said that this amount was considered more than enough to feed one household, at least per week.

In some households with only four family members, this amount of rice can even last for up to one month.
“It's simple, if household consumption is 10 kilos, that's enough,” he said at the CNBC Economic Outlook event, Thursday (29/2/2024).
Even so, 10 kg of rice will not be enough if it is intended for resale. Therefore, the government has created different schemes for MSMEs who want to resell them.
“If it's 2 tons, that's not enough. You have to take it to Cipinang Market,” said Arief.
Arief emphasized that the restrictions on purchasing rice in modern retail are intended for household use only, Mother.
“Some people complain, 'There can't be more than two, right?' “Yes, this is for retail. If you want to go to Cipinang,” he explained.
Since recent times, premium rice has suddenly disappeared from modern retail. This caused a shortage and a spike in the price of rice, which reached IDR 18 thousand per kg.
