Brilio.net – Fasting is an obligatory worship carried out by all Muslims in the world. The month of fasting only occurs once a year, so the momentum of fasting is a moment that Muslims have been waiting for. This activity of holding back hunger, thirst and lust is carried out throughout the month of Ramadan.
Apart from enduring hunger and thirst, fasting is a means of achieving piety for every Muslim. Fasting can also be interpreted as being grateful for the blessings given to His servants. Fasting is also useful for training oneself to curb the desires of the soul and is a means of softening the heart and controlling lust. By fasting, you can also train your heart to focus on dhikr and think about the majesty and greatness of Allah.
The Prophet SAW said, “Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and expects reward, his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever prays on the night of Lailatul Qadr out of faith and expects reward, his past sins will be forgiven,” (HR Al-Bukhari and Muslim from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him).
When fasting, many people often experience bad breath because their stomach is empty. However, this is normal. Even Rasulullah SAW said in a hadith that the smell of a fasting person's mouth is more than the smell of musk.
The Prophet SAW said, “Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied, a good deed will be repaid ten to seven hundredfold. Allah Almighty said, Except for fasting, indeed fasting is for Me and I will repay it, because the person who fasts has abandoned his lust and his food is because of Me. And for the person who fasts will get two happiness, namely the happiness when he breaks his fast and the happiness when he meets his Lord. And truly, the smell of the mouth of the fasting person is more fragrant than the aroma of musk,” (HR Muslim from Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu ).
Fasting is different from other obligatory worship. If worship such as prayer can be carried out in a few minutes, fasting is not the case. Fasting is carried out from before the sun rises from the east, marked by the morning call to prayer until sunset or marked by the start of the Maghrib prayer. Fasting is carried out for a whole month with solemnity and full devotion to Allah SWT.
Each country has different times for fasting depending on the sunrise and sunset times. However, in Indonesia, fasting is carried out on average for 12 hours.
Like other obligatory worship, fasting has a prayer reading to start the worship. The intentions for fasting during the month of Ramadan are as follows:
“Nawaitu shauma ghadin 'an ada'i fardhi syahri Ramadhana hadzihis sanati lillahi ta'ala.”
It means: “I intend to fast tomorrow to fulfill the obligation of fasting in the month of Ramadan this year, for the sake of Allah Ta'ala.”
When fasting, you may forget what you can or cannot do. However, sometimes you might accidentally do it because you don't know what invalidates fasting.
Reported by brilio.net from various sources, Thursday (29/2), the following activities cancel the fast.
