Suara.com – President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate the Samarinda Seberang Type A Terminal on Wednesday, February 28 2024 accompanied by the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi and the Director General of Land Transportation, Hendro Sugiatno.
This project was built by the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation in mid-2020 to serve Inter-City Inter-Provincial (AKAP) passengers on the Samarinda-Banjarmasin route and Inter-City Within Province (AKDP) from Samarinda to a number of areas in East Kalimantan.

Director of Road Transport Infrastructure, Directorate General of Public Relations, Ministry of Transportation, Toni Tauladan, has carried out an inspection and confirmed that preparations have been made to beautify the terminal to suit President Jokowi's agenda with the ranks of ministers for East Kalimantan.
The Type A Passenger Terminal under the management of the East Kalimantan Province Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD) was built to support land transportation, especially to meet the needs of the community, with a design that is more comfortable, safer and meets safety standards.
“The Samarinda Seberang Terminal was built on an area of 6,682 m2 with a building area of 3,600 m2 which is an asset of the Directorate General of Transportation, Ministry of Transportation. In 2020, it served around 3,137 vehicles with 51,338 passengers,” said Toni on Tuesday (27/2).

He further explained the construction work (revitalization) of the Samarinda Seberang Terminal in 2022 which consists of a bus parking area, counter area, health inspection area and rest area, drop area, road to the small vehicle parking area and others.
President Jokowi will later visit a number of terminal areas including seeing MSME tenants in the terminal accompanied by the Minister of Transportation and a number of other invitees.
“We hope that with the inauguration of the Samarinda Seberang Terminal, the terminal can be utilized optimally by the community and become a supporting facility for land transportation where East Kalimantan Province has been designated as the National Capital City (IKN),” he said

This passenger terminal fulfills the complete need for transportation facilities in a number of regions, because previously President Jokowi also inaugurated Tingkir Terminal, Salatiga, Central Java, Paya Ilang Terminal, Takengon, Aceh and Anak Air Terminal, Padang, West Sumatra, Purworejo Terminal, Central Java, Leuwipanjang Terminal, West Java and several other terminals.
“The development of transportation facilities and infrastructure such as the Samarinda Seberang Terminal is very important to increase the comfort of land transportation users. The bus terminal not only functions as a place for passengers to get on and off but also has other functions or mixed use, which is used as a modern terminal concept. So, it accommodates “MSME activity center, social activity center and integration between other modes,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Head of the Class II Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD) for East Kalimantan Province, Dr Muiz Thohir, said that the Samarinda Seberang Type A Terminal was built to complement a similar terminal in Balikpapan City, namely the Batu Ampar Terminal.
This is because a number of Autobus Companies (PO) at the Samarinda Seberang Terminal already serve passengers from Samarinda-Banjarmasin and vice versa. Thus, the terminal has become a transportation connectivity route between regions.
“The Samarinda Seberang Terminal really helps passengers from various regions who want to go to Banjarmasin and also serves from Samarinda City to several areas of East Kalimantan such as Kutai Kartanegara,” said Muiz.
In line with the construction of the National Capital City (IKN), the Samarinda Seberang Terminal has become a complementary supporting facility. Because, currently the population in Samarinda is also very high and community activity has increased.

Muiz said it was proven, from Samarinda City Government data submitted by Mayor H Andi Harun, that the hotel occupancy rate in the capital of East Kalimantan Province, especially Samarinda, had reached 90-100 percent.
“Community movement and transportation needs will be high, especially public transportation in the form of buses. “So, the Samarinda Seberang Terminal is expected to answer the community's demands to meet land transportation needs,” he concluded. (SS/ALV/WBW/AZN)
