SAMARINDA – A group of scientists conducting research in the Amazon rainforest discovered a new species of snake which is said to be the largest in the world. However, the size of the snake is still far from the Nabau which appeared in Kalimantan in 2009.
A University of Queensland research team traveled to the Amazon rainforest next to Ecuador to search for green anaconda snakes that had never been documented before.
“Our team joined several hunters on a 10-day expedition in Bameno, Baihuaeri Waorani Province, before paddling down a river in search of green anacondas,”
“The size of this animal is truly extraordinary. “One female anaconda that we found was 6.3 meters long,” said biologist Professor Bryan Fry who led the team as reported by IFL Science, Sunday (25/2/024)
The same team also heard rumors that a 7.5 meter long anaconda weighing 500 kilograms had been seen in the area.
The green anaconda is the world's heaviest snake, according to the British Museum of Natural History. According to him, the heaviest green anaconda ever recorded weighed 227 kilograms.
It also measures 8.43 meters long and 1.11 meters wide.
Experts found that the genetics of a newly identified northern green anaconda species diverged from those of the southern green anaconda nearly 10 million years ago by 5.5 percent.
Previously, there was a photo of a giant snake swimming in the Baleh River, Sibu, Sarawak, the northern part of Kalimantan which is part of Malaysia. Photo of a giant snake seen swimming in a tropical river surrounded by peat forest.
