Ancient Megalith Finds in Peru. PHOTO/ SCIENCE ALERT
LIMA – SCIENCE discovered in Peru is one of the oldest in the Americas. This discovery is very interesting and important for archaeologists and historians because it provides new insights into early civilization in the Americas.
As reported by Science Alert, found in the Viru Valley, about 480 km north of Lima, Peru, it is estimated to be more than 4,000 years old, making it one of the oldest megalithic structures in the world.
It consists of a large stone platform, a pyramid-like structure, and polychrome walls. It is believed to be a ceremonial site and place of worship for ancient people.
The discovery of these ancient megaliths shows that civilization in the Americas was much more advanced than previously thought.
Ancient people in Peru had the knowledge and technology to build complex and monumental megalithic structures.
This discovery also opens up new research opportunities about the culture and beliefs of ancient peoples in the Americas.
One of the earliest examples discovered to date is an 18 meter (about 60 ft) wide circular plaza made of large upright stones. This square was recently excavated in a valley in northern Peru called Callacpuma.
Discoveries from this ancient site, originally discovered nearly six decades earlier, indicate that the square is approximately 4,750 years old. This makes it one of the oldest monolithic structures found in all of the Americas.
These monumental structures were not only built before the rise of agriculture in the region, but also predate technologies such as ceramics.
This extraordinary site is bordered by two concentric walls built of amorphous, unamortized megalithic stone. These stones were probably hewn from exposed bedrock some 50 meters away.
