The film Women from Rote Island is showing in cinemas starting Thursday (22/2).
This film, directed by Jeremias Nyagoen, tells the story of the struggle of women on Rote Island who experience sexual violence and discrimination.
Before showing in Indonesian cinemas, Women from Rote Island was screened at the 28th Busan International Film Festival in October 2023.
This film also managed to win four FFI 2023 trophies, namely Best Long Story Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenwriter and Best Cinematography Director.

This film tells the story of Orpa (Linda Adoe), who has just lost her husband and lives with her two daughters, who has to face discrimination and tradition by fighting to get justice for the violence she and her children experienced.
On the other hand, Martha (Irma Rihi), a child from Orpa, returns to her hometown carrying the trauma of sexual violence she experienced when she was a migrant worker.
When the residents in her village found out about Martha's condition, instead of receiving protection, Martha received unpleasant treatment again.
Orpas and their families have to face discrimination and survive conditions that are not in their favor.
