Suara.com – The Ministry of Communication and Information has prepared a new regulation in the form of a Minister of Communication and Information Regulation (Permenkominfo) which regulates the gaming industry in Indonesia.
This regulation was made after President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) appointed the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as Head of the Team for the Acceleration of Development of the National Games Industry.
“The Presidential Decree has already been issued, later we will have another (Permenkominfo) for the industry (gaming),” said the Director General of Information Applications (Dirjen APTIKA) of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan when met at the Pondok si Boncel Orphanage in Srengseng Sawah, South Newsdelivers.com, Friday (23/2/2024).
The man who is familiarly called Semmy said that the draft Permenkominfo had been completed. It's just that his party is still continuing to hold discussions with game industry players.
“Actually the draft has been completed, but it needs to be discussed with the players,” continued Semmy.
Semmy revealed that this Permenkominfo will regulate the national games industry, starting from developers, publishers, to players.
Through the new Minister of Communication and Information Regulation, he wants the gaming industry in Indonesia to be healthier, both for domestic and foreign players.
“We arrange everything so that the industry is conducive, and local players and foreign players have the same rights and obligations,” he added.
Semmy also ensured that the government had regulated the incentives as stated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 19 of 2024 concerning the Acceleration of Development of the National Games Industry.
“There are incentives in the Presidential Decree, but we don't take care of the external ones. Well, I took care of both so that it was balanced. As for the local ones, there are already incentives given in the Presidential Decree,” explained Semmy.
Before ratifying the Minister of Communication and Information regarding the gaming industry, Semmy admitted that he immediately met with the Indonesian Game Association (AGI). He also emphasized that AGI was the first party to request that this regulation be ratified.
“They understand the industry, we understand the rules. How not to make it a burden, or even make it difficult. If it's not regulated, they will end up being bullied by big players,” he stressed.
