BINUS University collaborates with ONIC to present a platform so that the younger generation can get involved in the world of esports.
JAKARTA – The world of esports has become a global phenomenon that cannot be ignored. From just a hobby to a billion-dollar industry, esports has created new career opportunities and changed the paradigm of what can be achieved through video gaming.
With millions of players and fans spread across the world, esports is no longer just an activity for refreshment, but also an arena for serious competition. However, behind the glittering esports scene, there are challenges that need to be overcome, especially in preparing the younger generation to take a role in the esports industry.
As an answer to this challenge, BINUS University collaborates with ONIC to present a platform so that the younger generation can get involved in the world of esports through ONIC CAMP Vol 2.
ONIC Camp Vol 2 was held at the Anggrek-BINUS @Kemanggisan campus from 17 to 18 February 2024. This event is not just a place for game lovers to gather and have fun. However, it is also an important momentum in preparing Indonesian students and young people to enter the increasingly growing world of esports.
In it, there is direct training and mentoring from experts, as well as the opportunity to get involved in Mobile Legends tournaments. So that participants can gain the skills and experience needed in the world of esports.
Rahaditya Rizqi Putra as ONIC General Manager said, this event provides an overview for academics (ONIC CAMP participants) who want to have a career in the gaming industry, especially esports.
According to him, this industry is still in the early stages and there is still a lot of room to develop. The hope is that it can provide benefits for academics who want to have a career so that they can advance the gaming industry ecosystem itself.
“Moreover, ONIC CAMP is supported by speakers from the Game Application and Technology department of BINUS UNIVERSITY such as Dimas Ramdhan, so that there is more practical knowledge that can be applied for academics when they want to contribute to the gaming industry,” said Rahaditya.
Through training sessions, participants from various groups, including students, have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills in playing games. Leading experts in the field of esports such as Lius Andre, Pulung and Jati Pratyoco provide valuable insight into aspects of the world of esports. starting from game strategy to team development.
“We really support the ONIC Camp Vol 2 event, because we believe that this initiative will provide students with valuable opportunities to hone their skills in the esports industry, as well as broaden their horizons in the fields of technology and gaming,” said Dr. Ir. Yohannes Kurniawan, S.Kom., SE, MMSI, as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at Binus University.
Through sharing experiences and tips from experts, students and the public are invited to not only become game consumers, but also active actors in this industry.
By building solid skills and networks, it is hoped that the participants can become ambassadors who are able to bring Indonesia's good name to global competitions in the future.
“I think the future of the esports industry in Indonesia is quite bright, because looking at the community which is starting to grow and I see that many people in Indonesia like playing games. “The government is also starting to support the world of esports a lot, so the potential for new jobs can open up too,” said Butsss, Captain of the ONIC Esports Team.
