Suara.com – Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, The Honorable Ricard Marles MP, directly congratulated Prabowo Subianto on his temporary lead in the 2024 presidential election.
Marles conveyed these congratulations in front of Prabowo when they met at the Ministry of Defense.
Personally, Marles expressed his joy at being able to meet Prabowo in person.
“And congratulate you on your election as the next president of Indonesia,” said Marles to Prabowo, Friday (23/2/2024).
Marles also expressed his gratitude for Prabowo's acceptance regarding Marles' visit to Indonesia. It is known that the two of them held a closed meeting.
One of the discussions was regarding defense cooperation plans and other fields between Indonesia and Australia.
Previously, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese congratulated presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto who was ahead in the 2024 presidential election in the preliminary calculation results.
He expressed this in Albanese's upload, on his personal X account @AlboMP, Tuesday (15/2/2024).
“I am honored to be the first foreign leader to speak today with @prabowo, who is clearly ahead in official and unofficial calculations, about ambitions for the future of Australia-Indonesia relations,” he wrote.
“As a fellow democratic country and close friend, Australia congratulates Indonesia for successfully holding the presidential election on February 14,” he continued.
Albanese hopes to immediately establish bilateral cooperation with Indonesia, which will be led by a new president when he is inaugurated in October 2024.
“I hope to work together with the new President of Indonesia after being inaugurated in October 2024,” he said.
Based on the latest General Election Commission (KPU) calculation data at 17.28 WIB on the election2024.kpu.go.id page, the Prabowo-Gibran candidate pair is in the top position with 56.32% of the incoming vote progress coverage of 43.93%.
As for the quick count results of several survey institutions, Prabowo-Gibran is ahead by almost 60 percent.
According to Populi Center calculations with incoming data of 99.72%, Prabowo-Gibran is ahead with 59.13%. Meanwhile, Poltracking with incoming data was 95.9, Prabowo-Gibran was ahead with 59.34%.
