JAKARTA – PSSI General Chair (Ketum) Erick Thohir compared the South Korean League's top caste team, Suwon FC, with League 1 regarding the release of players to the U-23 Indonesian National Team. Because, there are those who reject and support this matter.
As is known, the team coached by Shin Tae-yong will appear in the 2024 Qatar U-23 Asian Cup next April. However, this agenda is not included in the FIFA calendar where the competition will continue.
Erick Thohir said he received news that Suwon FC would release a player to the U-23 Indonesian National Team, namely Pratama Arhan. He believes that this should be appreciated and imitated by League 1 teams.
“Yes, if Suwon FC as a club that is not from Indonesia only supports the national team, let alone an Indonesian club,” said Erick Thohir in Jakarta, Tuesday (20/2/2024).
Previously, Persija and Borneo FC had expressed objections to releasing players to the U-23 Indonesian National Team. Because both teams need their players to penetrate the championship series round.
Currently, Pesut Etam – Borneo FC's nickname is at the top of the standings with 54 points. Meanwhile, Persija is in ninth position with 32 points.
The BUMN Minister understands the issue of the current needs of League 1 teams' players. Therefore, he assured that his party would find the best solution to this problem.
“There must be a way out,” he said.
