TEL AVIV – Israel's Channel 13 reported on Wednesday (14/2/2024) that the prison administration of the Zionist colonial regime transferred the detained prominent leader of Fatah, Marwan Barghouti, to solitary confinement.
“The prison administration took action against Barghouti claiming he was encouraging increased resistance in the West Bank,” the report said.
The report explains, “Barghouti was transferred from Ofer Prison to solitary confinement in another prison,” without specifying which prison, after the prison administration “received information that Barghouti was encouraging increased acts of resistance against the occupation in the West Bank.”
Israeli authorities claimed, “Barghouti is seeking through several channels to launch the Third Intifada in the West Bank, due to the continuation of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.”
Barghouti is a prominent politician and leader of the Fatah movement. He participated in the First Intifada in 1987 and was one of the most prominent faces of the Second Intifada in 2000.
He was arrested and exiled several times and was the target of failed Israeli assassination attempts. He was sentenced to five life sentences and has been in custody since 2002.
Even though he was imprisoned, he still had many followers. A number of opinion polls show that if Palestinian elections are held, he will most likely be elected president of the Palestinian Authority (PA).
