Is Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Jermall Charlo dueling May 4 in Las Vegas? The possibility of a duel between the two world boxing champions awaits an official decision from both camps.
Jermall Charlo holds a glass of rum in his hand as he gives a celebratory toast. However, this wasn't to relive the news of the biggest fight of his career, but rather to enjoy life as he and his family vacationed in Turks and Caicos.
The undefeated WBC middleweight world champion took a break from his current busy schedule to deny rumors that he will face the undisputed super middleweight world champion, Saul Canelo Alvarez.
“I haven't even spoken to Al Haymon since the last time I fought,” Charlo stressed in a post on his Instagram account on Wednesday afternoon. “Everyone's like 'You're going to fight Canelo'… no confirmation. I'm on an island somewhere.”
Jermall Charlo (33-0, 22KO) explained that the video was actually taken on Wednesday, when he and his family members wished each other a Happy Valentine's Day. Rumors have been circulating for months about this possible fight, with recent headlines stating that it will take place on May 4 in Las Vegas.
Guadalajara's Saul Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2, 39KOs) confirmed the date and city in an interview Tuesday with TV Azteca in his native Mexico. However, he did not reveal who his opponent would be, nor did any of the candidates considered to be front-runners support claims that he would be his opponent.
“Until there is an official announcement, it's official,” said Charlo. “I volunteered. I said I would do whatever I had to do. We were jet skiing, I stopped for this.”
