GAZA – Israeli soldiers have stolen 200 million shekels (more than Rp. 851 billion) from the headquarters of the Palestine Bank in Gaza City.
The massive cash heist was exposed by Israeli newspapers; Maariv, on Sunday (11/2/2024).
The Israeli officers, quoted by Maariv, argued that Zionist military forces took funds allocated to the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority – which came under fire in the al-Rimal neighborhood, Gaza, last week.
Neither the Palestinian Authority nor Hamas have commented on the massive theft of money by Israeli soldiers from Gaza banks.
The Israeli military argued that the money from the bank was taken so that it would not fall into the hands of Hamas.
“Israeli soldiers were at the Palestine Bank headquarters in Gaza last week to prevent money from going to Hamas,” an Israeli military spokesman told Maariv, without providing further details.
Despite the International Court of Justice issuing an interim ruling last month ordering Israel to prevent genocide in Gaza, the Zionist military has continued its deadly offensive in the Gaza Strip in which at least 28,176 Palestinians have been killed, most of them women and children, and 67,784 others injured since 7 October 2023.
Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since cross-border attacks by Hamas, which Tel Aviv says killed nearly 1,200 people.
Israel's offensive has displaced 85 percent of Gaza's population amid shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave's infrastructure was damaged or destroyed, according to the UN.
