Newsdelivers.com –
Not long ago it was reported that premium rice was rare on the market, Mother. So, what is the cause, huh?
The Main Director of Perum Bulog, Bayu Krinamurthi, revealed that the government's rice reserves (CBP) still reached 1.18 million tons, including premium rice. Meanwhile, the scarcity of premium rice in modern retail occurs due to high prices at the producer level.
This was expressed by Bayu after attending a Limited Meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding rice, which was held on Monday (12/2/2024), at the Presidential Palace.

“The current domestic rice stock is 1.189 million tons in total. That's all (including premium). We import 5%,” he said after the meeting.
Not only that, Bayu also explained that the realization of rice imports so far is in the range of 500,000 tons from the allocation of 2 million tons this year. That way, rice imports will then come in gradually during the lean period, namely in June, July and October.
“From our allocation of 2 million tons, only 500,000 tons have been realized. So yes, it's still a long way to go, this year is still long, we're still going through a lean period. So the government has to prepare a long time,” he said.
Meeting decision with the president
During the meeting, it was decided that Jokowi asked every ministry and institution to immediately flood modern and traditional markets with rice from Perum Bulog.
At the same time, the Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Arief Prasetro Adi, said that the government was still optimistic that a consistent reduction in rice prices could occur in March this year. Arief said this refers to the findings of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Area Sample Frame (KSA) data which estimates rice production to reach 3.51 tons in March 2024.
“The government hopes that in March the price of rice will fall a little more,” said Arief.
Arief explained that he, Bulog Director Bayu Krisnamurthi and the Minister of BUMN, Erick Thohir, would go to the Cipinang Main Market today to ensure that rice distribution to traditional and modern markets runs smoothly.
“These 34,000 tons of rice must reach the market. So once again, the order is to flood the market,” said Arief.
