SEPANG – Aprilia Racing racer, Maverick Vinales, admits that he still needs additional time to test the RS-GP24. The reason is, he complained that the new Aprilia motorbike was still unstable when entering corners.
Maverick Vinales still feels dissatisfied, after three days appearing in the 2024 Malaysia MotoGP pre-season test which took place at the Sepang Circuit. Because Top Gun – Maverick Vinales' nickname – was unable to occupy the top five positions.
On the third day of testing, Maverick Vinales was in 12th place with a time difference of 0.846 seconds from Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) who was fastest with 1 minute 56.682 seconds. Meanwhile on the second day, he was in 18th place and sixth on the first day.
Meanwhile, Maverick Vinales admitted that he still needed additional time to test his new motorbike. According to him, taking more time allows Aprilia to find out its shortcomings.
“I need another day or two, more testing days are always nice. “I can say that we tried the new motorbike and we have a clear idea of what we need to do,” said Maverick Vinales, quoted from Crash, Thursday (8/2/2024).
The Spaniard admitted balance was a problem for the RS-GP24 during the pre-season test at Sepang. Maverick Vinales explained that his motorbike was unstable and made him unable to ride it
“When entering a corner, the balance is still not good. “I have a very unstable bike and basically I can't ride it,” he explained.
Apart from stability issues, Maverick Vinales said Aprilia is working on aerodynamics. However, he explained that he would try this with his motorbike in the right place.
“We also worked a lot with aerodynamics to see if this could influence this feeling. “I want to try aerodynamics when I feel the bike is in the right place, otherwise I won't be able to ride properly,” he concluded.
