He said that what was conveyed by a number of campuses was a similar discussion that his party held several years ago.
“We have been talking about this for a long time, we respect the opinions of universities and academics, and that is the voice we need in our democracy,” he explained.
However, he asked academics and professors to objectively criticize Jokowi's leadership.
He even wondered why this criticism came from academics ahead of the election contest. He hopes that criticism will come from academics in the decades to come.
“So, I was hoping that this statement would come decades ago. We hoped that it would be decades ago, but instead we only heard it now. We have been waiting for this for 25 years,” he explained.
He hopes that Jokowi's criticism of the degradation of democracy is genuine criticism from academics without any encouragement from anyone.
“Yes, we hope for pure votes. Even though there are some of them who support other candidates. Yes, it's okay to just express their support,” he said.
For your information, a number of universities in Indonesia have expressed their criticism of Indonesian Democracy led by President Joko Widodo. They believe that there is a decline in democracy by Jokowi ahead of the 2024 elections.
