Pramac Racing racer, Franco Morbidelli, is confirmed to be absent from the 2024 Qatar MotoGP pre-season test. Because, Morbidelli had to focus on recovering after suffering a serious accident while undergoing closed training with WSBK racers and VR46 Academy riders in Portimao last week.
The certainty of Morbidelli's absence was informed directly by Pramac Racing via its Instagram account @pramacracing. In his statement, the team of doctors who treated Morbidelli decided to undergo a thorough examination even though his condition looked fine.
“Following the dramatic accident that occurred during a private test in Portimão last week, Franco Morbidelli underwent further examination by Prof. Franco Servadei (neurologist) and Dr. Roberto Donati,” wrote Pramac Racing on its Instagram account, Tuesday (6/2/2024).
“Even though his general condition is good, the Prima Pramac Racing racer decided to undergo a thorough medical examination before deciding whether to go to Sepang or not,” he continued.
As a precaution, the team of doctors advised Morbidelli to be sidelined for three weeks. For this reason, the former Monster Energy Yamaha rider will certainly not take part in the 2024 MotoGP pre-season test which will take place in Qatar on 19-20 February.
Morbidelli will also start the opening series, namely MotoGP Qatar 2024. The race will take place at the Losail International Circuit on March 10 2024.
“After the results of various examinations showed a good overall clinical picture, Prof. Franco Servadei recommended, as a precaution, that Morbidelli refrain from resuming sporting activities for the next three weeks. “As a result, Franco will not be able to take part in the upcoming official test in Qatar (19-20 February),” explained Pramac Racing in a statement.
“His return to the track is expected for the first MotoGP race of the 2024 season, which is scheduled at the Losail International Circuit on March 8-10,” he concluded.
That way, Morbidelli had to miss two official pre-season tests. Because currently, he is also absent from the 2024 MotoGP pre-season test which is currently taking place in Sepang, Malaysia.
