BANGKOK – Lopburi, a city in central Thailand, has been paralyzed after being attacked by around 3,500 monkeys.
The invasion of these animals has caused fear in the residents, where they are busy closing their houses. Shops and businesses were also forced to close and relocate.
Not only that, investors have stopped their investments in Lopburi city and tourists have also fled.
The city of Lopburi was once a thriving center for tourists who flocked to see wild monkeys in the city. However, he had now been completely overpowered by an army of thousands of monkeys.
“We live in cages, but the monkeys live outside,” said Kuljira Taechawattanawanna, a resident of Lopburi, describing the condition of the residents due to the invasion of thousands of monkeys, as quoted by The Sun, Friday (2/2/2024).
Taechawattanawanna went on to say that he had to close off his terrace to prevent mobs of monkeys from raiding his house in search of food.
Lopburi City authorities had to establish several no-go zones throughout the city, as some of these areas had been taken over by warring groups of monkeys.
At first local residents tried to drive the animals away by providing fast food, but this plan backfired and only seemed to make the monkeys more violent.
They gave the monkeys candy, fizzy drinks and cereal—sweet foods that are known to make monkeys more hyper and sexually active.
