JAKARTA – The Indonesian Gamsunoro ship stole attention because it managed to pass through the turbulent Red Sea. Not alone, they were one of the ships that successfully crossed the Free Spirit from the Marshall Islands.
In response to the hot conditions in the Red Sea, passing ships usually turn around and take another route. However, it was different with the two Aframax tankers which managed to pass through the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Quoting Reuters, Wednesday (31/1/2024), the two tankers were Gamsunoro with the Indonesian flag and Free Spirit with the Marshall Islands flag.

Gamsunoro Indonesia Ship Specifications
Gamsunoro is a crude oil tanker sailing under the Indonesian flag. This ship was inaugurated in 2014.
Quoting the Pertamina website, Gamsunoro has a deadweight of 105,000 DWT. Its existence is one of Pertamina's 9th Aframax sized tankers.
Some of its predecessors include Gebang, Geudondong, Mount Kemala, Gede, Galunggung, Gamalama, Gamkonora and Mount Geulis.
In its use, Gamsunoro is expected to be the answer to overcoming Indonesia's crude oil transportation needs. This ship has the 'Sumitomo DNA' or Dual market New type Aframax design.
The capacity is the same as Aframax, but the dimensions are smaller. This is said to make it more flexible when operated and reduce operating costs.
After a long process of design, Gamsunoro was classed by Lloyds's Register of Shipping (LRS) and meets international requirements. In operation, this ship will be able to carry out activities such as transporting crude oil on international shipping.
Most recently, the Gamsunoro ship stole attention after crossing the Red Sea safely. In fact, recently conditions in this water area have been hot following attacks by the Houthi militant group from Yemen.
It is possible that Gamsunoro managed to escape because he had previously signaled Saudi Arabia's Red Sea port during the past week.
