Eight teams have confirmed their qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2023 Asian Cup. The two newest teams to advance to the top eight are Japan and Iran.
Japan became the seventh team to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Asian Cup after beating Bahrain with a score of 3-1 at Al Thumama Stadium, Wednesday (31/1/2024) evening WIB. The three Samurai Blue goals were scored by Doan (31'), Kubo (49') and Ueda (72').
After the match, coach Hajime Moriyasu was happy with the results his team got when they faced Bahrain. He claims that he finds his best matches at crucial moments.
“I think today's result is due to the effort in training. We had six days to rest and train, and it showed against Bahrain. We looked back at ourselves and improved some things. We played better today and I know we has greater potential for development,” said Moriyasu.
“I think we defended much better. Of course we weren't perfect and we can improve in the next game. If we play against Iran, we need to learn from our mistakes to nullify their impressive attackers.”
Meanwhile, Iran won the last ticket to the quarter-finals. This certainty was obtained after winning on penalties 5-3 after a 1-1 draw against Syria at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Thursday (2/2/2024) early morning WIB.
