SEOUL – North Korea (North Korea) fired several unidentified cruise missiles into the sea off its west coast on Tuesday (30/1/2024) morning.
This is the third missile maneuver that has disturbed South Korea (South Korea) in less than a week.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), in a statement quoted by Reuters, said Pyongyang's cruise missiles were fired at around 07.00 am.
According to JCS, South Korean and United States intelligence authorities are closely monitoring the situation and analyzing the details of the launch.
Earlier, on Sunday, North Korea's military also fired several cruise missiles off its east coast amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.
State media, KCNA, on Monday confirmed that Pyongyang's military test-fired two cruise missiles from a submarine named “Pulhwasal-3-31”.
According to the report, the test firing of the two missiles was directly supervised by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The missile test-fired last week was also a “Pulhwasal-3-31”, the KCNA report said, adding that the weapon was a strategic missile, which usually refers to nuclear-capable weapons.
South Korea's JCS said last week that it believed the Pulhwasal-3-31 shot was to test an upgrade of an existing missile's capabilities.
