Suara.com – PT BYD Motor Indonesia says it doesn't want to be lazy about selling cheap electric cars in Indonesia. Instead, the electric vehicle or EV giant from China wants to prioritize quality and performance.
Head of Marketing & Communication BYD Motor Indonesia Luther T. Panjaitan, at a press conference in Bandung, West Java, Tuesday (30/1/2024) admitted that several electric car brands from China had entered Indonesia with cheap electric cars.
“But BYD doesn't want to fight on price. We want to compete on quality, technology and comfort,” said Luther.
He said that based on experience in many countries and as a company that focuses on research and technology, BYD chooses to offer products that are superior in terms of performance, design and technology before thinking about price.

This is one of the reasons why BYD Motor Indonesia has not announced the prices of its three electric cars – BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3 and BYD Seal – in Indonesia. All three were launched in mid-January.
“We feel that the market doesn't have enough information about BYD. They must first know what BYD is, what kind of product it is and what class it is in,” he explained.
“So that in the future we can manage market expectations. So they won't be surprised about price and quality,” added Luther.
This factor is also the reason why the BYD Seagull, which is known as one of the cheapest electric cars in China, has not been brought to Indonesia.
“We feel that the three that have been launched are sufficient. BYD Dolphin is sufficient for the Indonesian market,” explained Luther.
Luther further said that BYD has been studying the Indonesian market since at least 2018, so it already knows enough about what the market wants.
The prices for BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3 and BYD Seal will be announced in the near future, allegedly on the sidelines of the IIMS 2024 exhibition in February.
