JAKARTA – Young Indonesian billiards player, Albert Januarta, has won the Junior U-17 9 Ball category at the Indonesia International Open (IIO) 2024. Albert said he was very happy to be able to win his first international title.
Albert Januarta won the title after defeating his compatriot, Brian Axel Ferdian with a score of 9-7. Playing at the Royal Glasshouse, Kebon Sirih, Jakarta on Thursday (25/1/2024), Albert appeared confident from the start of the match.
Even though he was two points behind, the 15 year old billiards player was finally able to seal the win. This is Albert's first world title.
After the match, Albert said he was very happy to be able to win the championship title. He revealed that billiards is a sport he has been familiar with since childhood.
“Of course I'm happy to be world champion for the first time,” said Albert to the MNC Team, Thursday (25/1/2024).
“Actually (I knew billiards) from my brother, the first time he played billiards, then he often went out of town, maybe I became interested in playing billiards too,” he continued.
Furthermore, Albert said he was ready to increase the level for the next tournament. He hopes to win the next prestigious event.
“Yes, maybe you definitely want more,” said Albert.
“I want to go to a more prestigious overseas (tournament),” he said.
Just for your information, Albert has previously performed in two foreign tournaments, namely in England and Taiwan. However, Albert was not able to achieve maximum results because he was stopped in the round of 16 and 32.
