WASHINGTON – Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley hopes to challenge US presidential candidate Donald Trump's status as the party's presidential nominee in the 2024 election.
Trump will head into the primaries as the favorite after resounding wins in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary.
Incumbent President Joe Biden, who finished fifth in the 2020 New Hampshire primary, has decided to skip the year. His supporters can still vote for him by writing his name on the ballot.

1. Trump Always Leads in Polls

According to Al Jazeera, Trump still leads opinion polls by a large margin compared to Haley.
According to polling and analysis site 538, Trump leads the Republican field in New Hampshire, with an average of 52 percent of primary voters planning to cast a ballot for the former president. Haley came in second with nearly 37 percent support.
2. Trump Supported by Governor Ron DeSantis

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who dropped out of the race on Sunday, has about 5 percent support according to polls. Since then, he has supported Trump, and if his supporters vote for Trump, it would further strengthen the chances for the real estate developer-turned-politician.
Polls show DeSantis supporters are more likely to shift their support to Trump than Haley. However, DeSantis' exit opens up an opportunity for Haley, a former US ambassador to the UN, to try to appeal to voters who want to ditch Trump and install a new generation of leadership.
3. Confirmation of Victory for Trump

According to Al Jazeera, although the primary election will give Trump a chance to assert his dominance over Republican candidates, it also gives his challenger, Haley, a chance to show that Trump can be vulnerable.
If Haley wins, she could move on to the South Carolina primary as a viable Trump alternative, making the case to the Republican voter base that she represents the party's future and Trump represents the past.
The race between Trump and Haley is expected to be tighter than the results in . Trump beat Haley and DeSantis by 30 percentage points in the state's caucuses.
