Jason Harris is the CEO of the Mekanism agency which has many global clients, such as Dropbox, Ben & Jerry's, Adobe, Amazon, and many more. During his 17 years leading the advertising agency, he won the 2021 CEO of the Year award by The Drum. The good work environment he created in the office made the agency he leads enter Ad Age's Best Places to Work list.
Based on this experience, Harris formulated everything that makes him a leader with good emotional intelligence. For him, there are 3 things that most differentiate leaders with high emotional intelligence. These three things are the foundation of their success. Here's what he explained via CNBC Make It.
They Lead Sincerely

A sincere leader communicates his ideas more easily to others. They will display an authentic identity and not try to imitate other people. When they feel good about themselves, that's where their power emerges. Harris calls it the David Bowie Principle in which singer David Bowie managed to achieve success after displaying an eccentric and authentic side of himself.

Leaders with high emotional intelligence also have a philanthropic nature. They do not hesitate to help others to lighten their burdens. From here they develop long-term relationships with others.
They are Driven by Curiosity

A person's emotional intelligence also includes empathy and curiosity. Therefore, these two characteristics are also the strength of a leader to be successful. When they meet other people, they really want to know what they are doing.
It is not uncommon for leaders with high emotional intelligence to also ask why they do it and what makes it challenging. They will listen without judgment and be open because this is where leaders can learn.
