JAKARTA – Iran is one of the countries with the strongest military in the Middle East region. The reliability of the weapons system is supported by the militancy and skilled skills of the soldiers, making their eternal rivals, Israel and America nervous.
This military strength is what makes Israel, America and their allies not dare to be careless in responding to Iran’s alleged involvement in the crises in Gaza, the Red Sea and even Russia. However, the tension between them is increasing.
The latest news, last Tuesday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard troops showed off one of Iran’s deadliest weapons. This weapon is capable of launching ballistic missiles at targets more than 1,000 km away. These four Kheibar-Shekan missiles were directed at rebel groups in Idlib, Syria from Khuzestan province in southwest Iran.
This attack broke Iran’s range record for use of missiles in combat as well as the first major missile attack on the Revolutionary Guard’s Khuzestan base since the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. Long story short, Kheibar-Shekan’s capabilities can easily reach Israeli territory or one of about 12 American military bases in the Middle East.
Apart from the Kheibar-Shekan missile, Iran also has a number of other deadly weapons, what are they? The following is the review reported by Sputnik, Thursday (18/1/2024).
1. Fattah-1 Hypersonic Missile
Fattah-1 is Iran’s new hypersonic missile with a range of 1,400 km and can travel up to Mach 13-15. With its speed and maneuverability, this missile is difficult for any air defense system to anticipate.
Just months after the Fattah-1 was launched in 2023, Iran showcased a hypersonic guided cruise missile known as the Fattah-2. The specifications of this mysterious missile are not yet known and are different from the Fattah-1.
2. Abu Mahdi missile
On January 3, 2020, a US drone strike killed senior Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and IRGC Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad. Iran responded by bombing US bases in Iraq with ballistic missiles. In honor of the slain Iraqi commander, the Iran Aviation Industries Organization (IAIO) named Iran’s newest and most advanced naval cruise missile after him.
Introduced in August 2020, the Abu Mahdi is a 6 meter long, 0.55 meter wide, 1,650 kilogram naval cruise missile with a wingspan of 3.1 meters and a 410 kilogram high explosive warhead.
