At the end of his visit to Africa in Ivory Coast on Wednesday (17/1), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi praised the hosts for holding the African Cup of Nations and underlined the strong China-Ivory Coast partnership, with a focus on supporting each other on a number of important issues, including Taiwan.
Wang, Beijing’s top diplomat, concluded his first trip to Africa this year, having visited Egypt, Tunisia and Togo, before arriving in Ivory Coast on Wednesday.
Wang praised Ivory Coast for hosting this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting how Chinese companies have contributed to some of the tournament’s infrastructure.
He said that the two countries have a strong strategic partnership, and stressed that Ivory Coast supports the “reunification and territorial integrity” of China and Taiwan. (rd/rs)
