DOHA – Indonesian national team player Elkan Baggott stated that he wants to be fluent in that country’s language. Even now, he is still learning, albeit slowly.
As is known, Ipswich Town players have played for the Indonesian national team in both age and senior groups. The player has become an Indonesian citizen since 2021 after passing the naturalization stages.
Elkan Baggott said that currently his ability to speak Indonesian is still quite limited. Because, there are still words that he doesn’t understand when communicating with his teammates.
“I speak a little Indonesian. I understand some phrases and words, and can also speak a little,” said Elkan Baggott as quoted by the BBC, Wednesday (17/1/2024).
The 21 year old player said that in the future he would continue to study Indonesian. Therefore, this is the most important thing to facilitate communication with teammates.
“But this is something I still want to learn and improve and one day hopefully I can speak fluently,” he added.
Currently Elkan Baggott is fighting with the Indonesian National Team in the 2023 Asian Cup. The team is in Group D along with Japan, Iraq and Vietnam.
The Indonesian national team has played one match and lost 1-3 to Iraq. In the next match, Shin Tae-yong’s team will face Vietnam at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Friday (19/1/2024).
